You know that feeling when you complete a puzzle that you’ve been working on for so long? When that last piece fits perfectly in its place and you sit back and admire your hard work? That same feeling surrounded our garden this morning. What a beautiful, sunny day for our first garden harvest of pea pods and lettuce. It was such a great sight to see the children pluck, study and taste from their very own garden.
But that was just the icing on the cake. The kids had a blast catching this guy…..over and over again. They even tried to make him a home and debated whether or not grasshoppers liked water.
AND…..Miss Molly found a Monarch cocoon (aka pupa or chrysalis). How exciting considering we are blessed with an abundance of milkweed that only monarch caterpillars can eat! And, thanks to a grant from the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Community Foundation, as well as the National Wildlife Federation’s “Butterfly Heroes program” ( http://www.nwf.org/Butterfly-Heroes.apx) we have our very own butterfly garden! We will certainly be keeping a close eye on it over the next month.
Happy Summer everyone!!
